Psycho-Educational Assessments
In the cognitive domain, we assess how your child thinks, reasons, and solves problems—key skills that influence their learning and daily functioning. For academic skills, we evaluate their abilities in core subjects like reading, writing, and math to identify where they’re excelling and where they might need some extra help. Lastly, we explore your child’s social-emotional well-being, focusing on how they manage their emotions, build relationships, and handle stress.
The ultimate goal of this assessment is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your child’s unique profile. We then create personalized recommendations to support their success both in school and in their personal life. These recommendations are detailed in a report that you can use to guide your child’s learning journey, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive in all areas of their life
What is a Psycho-Educational Assessment?
A Psycho-Educational Assessment is a comprehensive, in-depth look at your child’s current functioning in several domains, including cognitive ability, academic skills, externalizing & internalizing behaviours, and social-emotional skills.
During the Psycho-Educational Assessment, your child will take part in a series of engaging activities that help us understand their unique strengths and areas for growth across three important areas: cognitive abilities, academic skills, and social-emotional well-being. These activities are carefully designed to see how your child is performing in comparison to other children their age, giving us a clear picture of their overall development.
Our goal, with every family we work with, is to ensure you leave feeling informed, confident, and truly equipped to support your child. We’re here to guide you, listen to your concerns, and offer meaningful strategies that make a real difference. Let’s work together to create a path forward that feels clear, supportive, and hopeful.

What's included in a Psycho-Educational Assessment?
Full Psycho-Educational Assessment with a Registered or Provisional Psychologist: $3000
The following is included with a full psycho-educational assessment:
The intake appointment can be done online, or in person, at our office. We recommend that just you & your spouse are present so that you can share your concerns without worrying about your child overhearing. Don’t worry about us getting information from your child! We spend time getting to know them before we begin the testing sessions.
This is the first time we get to meet your children! We spend time during this appointment playing and chatting with your kids (age dependent of course) and make sure they feel comfortable before we begin. Children frequently tell us this testing session feels like “brain games” for them. We use the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition to determine their cognitive profile. We are then able to quantify how they are functioning compared to same age peers.
Kids tell us this testing session feels like school, which makes sense as we use an academic measure to determine how your child is doing in reading, writing, and mathematics compared to other kids their age.
There are times when the normal battery of tests doesn’t obtain all of the data we want to gather to make an informed decision regarding what’s going on for your child. We may want to explore an additional area of your child’s functioning, however, we will discuss this with you prior to any test being added. There are no extra charges for this – the total fee is comprehensive of all testing the Psychologist feels is necessary.
There are clinical rating scales (similar to questionnaires) that we use to quantify how your child is doing behaviorally, emotionally, and socially. We can then determine the significance level compared to same age peers.
After all of the testing is done, it may be several weeks for the Psychologist to write the report as it’s quite comprehensive. Once the Psychologist indicates that you can book the debrief session, you can go online and book an hour that works for your family. Some families choose to have their child there for a portion of the results session while others prefer to leave their child at home.
The goal of the debrief session is always to provide clear communication to the family regarding the testing results. If there is a diagnosis, it will be explained to you during this meeting. At this time the report will be provided to you. This is now your report and you can choose to share it with whomever you deem appropriate (Dr, school, other professionals).
